Little Peaches, DaDa Cabaret at Unity Theatre, November 2023

Common Ground Sign Dance Theatre, choreographed by Denise Armstrong, Camp and Furnace 2008

Cabaret has always been a big part of DaDaFest programmes. Traditionally a subversive and political genre, Cabaret enables performers to take control of their own image and sexuality, challenge mainstream views and to reclaim space often closed to minority groups. A perfect recipe to celebrate and empower disabled artists!

  • A photograph of an androgynously dressed burlesque performer sitting provocatively upon the left arm of a pastel pink leather wheelchair. The performer is adorned in neon pink high heeled pumps and fishnet stockings, contrasted by a deep blue suit blazer, and matching top hat. The performer wears a heavy dark hued lip, winged eyeliner, and long lashes, all exhuming comfort and confidence.
  • An action shot of three actors engaged in a staged performance, one performer dips the second with a hand securing their midriff, while the third observes, partially blocked from view behind a row of three brightly painted wooden cubes, red, yellow, and blue. Two of the performers on the left and right of the photograph are clad in plaid shirts and short cut hair. The performer in the Centre wears a crushed velvet dress complete with ruffles and frills spilling out from beneath the hem, as well as longer, braided hair pulled back behind the ears. All the action is placed between a worn brick wall in the background, and a series of theatre cubes in the foreground, heightening the dramatic tension between the three performers.
